Tripura is set to undergo a massive technological transformation, aiming to make its entire healthcare delivery system fully digital by October 31, 2026. This ambitious project was announced by Health Secretary Kiran Gitte at a specialized workshop centred on the Integrated Health Information Management System. National Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal highlighted the significance of this initiative, noting that successfully digitalising the state’s medical infrastructure on such a scale could establish Tripura as a “model digital health state” for the rest of India.
During his review of the state’s progress, Dr. Barnwal inspected the newly established Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital to observe its tech-driven infrastructure in action. He voiced strong satisfaction with the hospital’s paperless environment, which smoothly handles patient records across both outpatient and inpatient departments. Dr. Barnwal was particularly impressed by the facility’s “Computer on Wheels” system, a mobile workstation that allows healthcare workers to update electronic health records directly at a patient’s bedside. Comparing it to advanced medical setups he had previously witnessed in the United Kingdom, he praised Agartala Civil Hospital for adopting cutting-edge, world-class healthcare technology.
To turn this vision into a unified state-wide network, Dr. Barnwal outlined the essential digital building blocks managed under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). A comprehensive digital healthcare ecosystem relies on linking four primary components: assigning every citizen a unique Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, registering all clinics and hospitals in the Health Facility Registry, verifying doctors within the Healthcare Professionals Registry and connecting every medical centre using IHMIS and other ABDM-compliant software to guarantee smooth data exchange and care continuity.
